About

He was born in Athens in 1957. He graduated from the department of Economics of the Aristotelian University of Thessaloniki and, in 1989, he received his Ph.D. from the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales, Paris, where he studied under the supervision of Helen Antoniadis-Bibicou. He is teaching in the University of Crete since 1990 and he is also a researcher in the Institute for Mediterranean Studies. He was a visiting Professor at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales, and published extensively in Greek, French, English and Spanish, He is a member of the management comity of the international research network Progressore (Programme de Rechereches sur les Sociétés Rurales Européennes http://crh.ehess.fr/index.php?/programmes-scientifiques/755-cost-a35-progressore) and the coordinator of its Working Group 4 (State and peasant society) since March 2005. This network is financed from the COST A35 program [http://www.cost.esf.org/domains_actions/isch/Actions/A35]. He also participates with other Greek economic historians in the HDOISTO (www.hdoisto.gr) network.
